It is a private limited company primarily engaged in the fields of research, development and innovation, in the service of the firms of the Canary Islands. The company is attached to the Regional Ministry of Industry, Commerce and New Technologies of the Canary Islands Government. The Instituto Tecnológico de Canarias S.A. (ITC) was created by the Canary Islands Government by means of Decree 130/1992, of 30th July. The ITC was created with the main purpose of encouraging and supporting the technological development of the Canary Islands, of promoting and boosting research, carried out either by itself or alternatively through a stake in other specific Technological Institutes, with a view to favouring the industrial development and the business training of the Canary Islands Autonomous Community. It has a registered office located in Las Palmas de Gran Canari in Palmas (Las), Spain. The company has more than 180 projects running as well as services covering the different areas making up its structure, including four functional divisions: The Division of Energy, Water and Bio-engineering, the Division of Management of Business Innovation, the Division of Information Systems and the Division of Central Services, thus responding to the needs detected in a diversity of key sectors for the development of the Canary Islands, such as, among others, the energy, business, training and new technologies sectors. Its mission is to lead innovation and technology transfer in strategic sectors which favour the competitiveness and the sustainable development of the Canary Islands and of its geographical and cultural environment, while maintaining excellence in management. The company carries out its activities from its two headquarters, located on the two metropolitan islands. On Gran Canaria, it has its facilities at Pozo Izquierdo (Santa Lucía). In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, it occupies the old Litografías Romero building, which was refurbished for this purpose in 1996. Apart from these facilities, there are also the Centres of Innovation and Technological Updating (CIATECs) located in Tegueste (Tenerife) and Agüimes (Gran Canaria), where all the in-person training of the ITC is carried out, and the Official Testing and Verification Laboratories for Goods and Industrial Products located in Lomo Blanco-Las Torres (Las Palmas de Gran Canaria) and Güimar (Tenerife).
